FingerCAD HD represents a pioneering development in the realm of portable CAD applications, specifically designed for touch-enabled devices. The software's capabilities include comprehensive design tools comparable to those found in standard PC CAD programs, with the advantage of mobility—allowing users to work during travel or in various work settings. Its user-friendly interface enhances its utility and flexibility, supporting standard file formats like DXF for saving and sharing designs via email or printing. Features such as zoom, pan, customizable drawing tools, autocomplete functions, autosaving, and automatic loading of previous sessions contribute to an efficient workflow.

Each design element is managed as a distinct object, enabling operations like undoing recent additions, selecting specific items for modification or removal, and maintaining design integrity over multiple sessions. The application includes specialized features such as automatic vertex snapping for precise adjacency, an "auto-draw double wall" function with adjustable thickness, and extensive color management options—ranging from RGB controls to transparency effects and manual color selection—that support both technical accuracy and aesthetic customization.

Core CAD functionalities are supplemented by modifications, copying, moving objects across layers or floors, and automatic area calculations for complex polygonal surfaces. The integration with virtual reality allows users to navigate 3D models in first-person view using Finger3D HD in conjunction with FingerCAD HD.

High-precision drawing is supported through dynamic previewing of line endpoints before placement. The auto-pan feature ensures continuous work efficiency by automatically shifting the viewport when reaching screen edges, eliminating the need for manual zoom adjustments during lengthy line creation. Export options include OBJ format for 3D modeling software such as Blender or Maya, DXF for AutoCAD-compatible programs, PDF documents, and image formats (JPG, PNG). Additionally, models can be viewed directly within the dedicated FingerCAD 3D Viewer.

File sharing capabilities extend via Dropbox or iCloud Drive and support importing DXF files from web links or email attachments. Printing functionalities are available through AirPrint compatibility.

The application encompasses an array of advanced tools: walls with adjustable thickness; snap-to control points; free text annotations; undo/redo history; object selection and transformation; grid customization with snap-to-grid options; position indicators; multiple measurement units; multi-layer and multi-floor design management; as well as features for scaling, rotating, extending, trimming, and mirroring objects. Users can share work files directly via email or transfer them to other applications.

A comprehensive library of parts organized by category (architecture, electrical, mechanical, etc.) further enhances design productivity. Overall, FingerCAD HD offers a robust suite of features that bridge the gap between traditional desktop CAD functionalities and the practical demands of mobile use—a tool suited for precise technical work in diverse environments.
